Recent Trends in the Nursing Research on the Woman¡¯s Health

Abstract
Purpose: With the Purpose to improve the nursing research on the women¡¯s health, the nursing papers from Korea were analyzed by subject and content. This study was anticipated to suggest the direction of the research on the field of women¡¯s health.

Method: A total of 422 papers from journals, such as Journal of Korean of Academy Nursing, Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamentals of Nursing, Journal of Korean Community Nursing, Korean Journal of Woman Health Nursing, and Journal of Korean Academy of Child Health Nursing Academic Society published from 1998 to 2003 were analyzed by Dunbar and Patterson¡¯s criteria.

Result: The number of papers on the women¡¯s health was 309(73.2%), and those of mother¡¯s role and other clinical studies were 62(14.7%) and 51(12.1%) each. Special fields of the 309 papers on the women¡¯s health were health management 101(32.7%), psychiatric health 61(19.8%), postmenopausal period 34(11.0%), nursing need 26(8.4%), menstruation 17(5.5%), sexuality 14(4.5%), and plan of family 6(1.9%), respectively. Analyzing the journals according to the life cycle, they were categorozed into pregnancy, juvenile, peripartum, married and aged periods.

Conclusion: According to the above results, the suggestions to promote the women¡¯s health nursing research were: The methodology for comparison study on the sex difference should be developed to understand the multifaced phenomena of women¡¯s health.
